Rapid Response Supports Yanceyville during Water Emergency

Multiple cases of water on a brick sidewalk

On February 18, 2026, the Town of Yanceyville, NC, faced an unexpected water emergency after its supplier, the City of Danville, VA, was unable to operate its water treatment plant due to high source water turbidity. The disruption left the town without water, prompting an immediate response from the CWS team to support local officials and residents.

By the following day, CWS had mobilized resources and delivered three pallets of bottled water for distribution throughout the community. Efforts continued on February 20 with the delivery of two additional pallets, ensuring residents had access to safe drinking water during the outage.

At the same time, the CWS team worked closely with the State Regulatory Board and the City of Danville to expedite the process required to lift the town’s boil water notice. On February 20, water samples were collected from eight locations across Yanceyville and submitted for bacteriological testing. Results came back quickly, and on February 21—coinciding with the City of Danville lifting its own boil water notice—all Yanceyville samples tested negative. Through direct coordination with the State Regulatory Office, Project Manager Ben Sears secured approval to lift Yanceyville’s boil water notice that same day—two days ahead of schedule.

In the days that followed, CWS crews continued supporting the community by flushing the distribution system to clear discolored water caused by the disruption.

This swift, coordinated response highlights CWS’s commitment to stepping in when it matters most—ensuring communities are supported, informed, and back to normal operations as quickly as possible.
