McCormick County, in partnership with ClearWater Solutions (CWS), recently held the kickoff meeting for the South Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority’s (RIA) Viability Improvement Program (VIP).

The VIP is a pilot initiative designed to help small water and wastewater utilities strengthen their long-term sustainability through technical assistance, strategic planning, and targeted infrastructure improvements. The program provides participating utilities with expert support to evaluate current operations, identify areas for improvement, and develop a roadmap for future success.

Through a three-phase process—assessment, planning, and implementation—the program helps communities address challenges such as aging infrastructure, regulatory compliance, financial management, and other factors that can impact the long-term reliability of utility services.

Upon completion of the assessment phase, McCormick County may be eligible to receive up to $2 million in RIA grant funding to implement recommended capital improvements identified through the program.

McCormick County is committed to fully participating in the Viability Improvement Program and investing in the long-term reliability of its water and wastewater systems. This initiative reflects the County’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, dependable utility services and improving the quality of life for its residents for years to come.
