Officials from the Town of Century recently welcomed two congressional aides to the Century Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) for a tour and discussion focused on the facility’s operational needs and environmental importance. The visit was part of an ongoing effort to secure state funding for critical upgrades that would improve the long-term reliability and efficiency of the plant.
During the visit, Clemente Brooks, Lead Wastewater Operator for the Century Project, joined Mayor Ben Boutwell in providing an in-depth overview of the facility’s operations. Brooks guided the aides through the plant, explaining the treatment process, current operational challenges, and the need for continued infrastructure improvements to maintain dependable service and environmental compliance.
The tour also highlighted the Town’s request for a $2 million grant to fund additional upgrades at the WWTP. If awarded, the funding would support several major improvements, including construction of a new motor control building, replacement of aging electrical systems, installation of a modern SCADA system throughout the facility, and rehabilitation of multiple lift stations.
The proposed improvements would modernize critical components of the WWTP while helping protect the surrounding environment and ensuring dependable wastewater service for Century residents and businesses.
