Bear Den Well Improvements

After more than two years of challenges, progress has been made on one of the two wells serving the Bear Den community in rural North Carolina. Well #2 had been experiencing water quality issues due to corrosion in the well stem, which caused holes that allowed water to spray against the casing and stir up sediment, resulting in dirty water. The well was taken offline for evaluation.

While the system owner delayed repairs, coordination continued with the North Carolina state inspector, who emphasized the need to restore the well as a backup. Multiple rounds of updated pricing were provided during this time.

The project has now been approved and completed. Once authorized, the contractor installed a new pump and piping within a month. With approximately 68 customers on the system, bringing Well #2 back online improves reliability and helps ensure consistent service.
