When Matt Fountain—Project Manager in Petal, MS—was out cleaning up around the City’s water tank recently, a group of children from the Play School Child Care Center next door came over to the fence to talk. As most children do, they peppered him with questions: How tall is the stand pipe? What does the tank do? What is the pipe coming out of the tank? Why did you take the fence down? What is the antenna on top? Do you want to see me do a handstand? Do you want to see me do a cartwheel? (If you have children, you know how this goes!)
While these children are still a bit too young to join our workforce, teaching them early about the simple aspects of water distribution—where water comes from, what a water tank does, how the water reaches their house, and even why its necessary to protect our resources—is a great thing! Matt was gracious enough to take a few minutes to listen and share information about his job in the community. And maybe, because of Matt’s influence, one of these children will continue to show interest in the water industry and become a part of our team in a few years. After all, you never know the impact you can make in a child’s life.
