Exciting things are happening at several facilities under CWS contract. Our clients are moving right along with their construction projects and here is an update on each:
Medical Properties Trust – Construction of Medical Properties Trust’s new LEED Platinum headquarters in Birmingham continues, with CWS still set to begin operations on September 1. Although the facility will still be under construction, our Operator of Record Hunter Shelton will begin familiarizing himself with the system, which is designed to recycle rainwater to potable standards with a 99% demand offset. The advanced system requires an Alabama Class IV operator to ensure compliance and performance, with full completion expected by year-end.
Pendleton-Clemson Wastewater Treatment Plant – Work continues on the upgrades to the Pendleton-Clemson WWTP. The plant is expanding from 2 MGD to 5 MGD and will be South Carolina’s first AGS (activated granular sludge) facility, using Phosphorous Accumulating Organisms (PAOs) to better control phosphorus limits. Upgrades include a new influent pump station, headworks with grit removal, AGS basin, correction tanks, filters, UV banks, and a nearly complete digester to improve solids handling. Full completion is expected by December 2026.
Hall County Sprout Springs Water Reclamation Facility – The Spout Springs WRF continues with its improvements to expand the capacity and infrastructure. The $21 million expansion will more than double its capacity—from 750,000 GPD to 1.6 MGD—to meet Hall County’s growing needs. Upgrades include a new UV disinfection system, aerobic digester, booster pump system, enhanced filters, a vacuum truck receiving station, and expanded Aqua Aerobic basins. Completion is expected in 2026.
