On March 26th and 27th, ClearWater Solutions had the pleasure of hosting 57 students from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) for an immersive tour of the Hoover, Inverness wastewater treatment facility.
Led by Michael McCary (CWS), Jason Welch (City of Hoover), and Dustin Till (GMC), students were given a behind-the-scenes look at the sophisticated engineering and biology required to protect our local water resources.
High Stakes and High Science
For these students, the tour counted as a lab day in their curriculum. Their professor, Richard Hawkings, emphasized the importance of the visit by informing the class that they would be tested on the insights gained during the tour, with the results factoring directly into their final grades.
To prepare for their upcoming exam, students were provided with a detailed plant flow chart and an overview of the treatment cycle.
Investing in the “Depth on the Bench”
At CWS, we believe that education is a critical foundation of environmental stewardship. There is a constant need for qualified water industry professionals.
By opening our doors to UAB, we aim to bridge the gap between theoretical engineering and the reality of municipal operations. We’re always grateful to share our expertise to help train the next generation of leaders who will ensure our communities have quality water for years to come.
We wish the students the best of luck on their upcoming finals!
