Nothing supports effective capital planning quite like seeing system needs up close. That’s why board members from the South Dallas Water Authority (SDWA) recently took a tour of their own water system facilities.
Led by Alabama State Director Torrey Jones, the four SDWA board members spent the day touring the water filtration plant, learning about the treatment process, and gaining a deeper understanding of the system’s current needs and long-term challenges.
“We had a very productive day together,” said Torrey. “While some board members had previously visited the plant, this was a valuable opportunity for the ClearWater Solutions team to showcase the high level of maintenance and care the system receives. It also allowed us to provide insight into some of the operational hurdles we face due to aging infrastructure.”
The last major upgrades to the water system were made more than 15 years ago, when SDWA invested over $3.5 million into the construction of a new automated greensand filter plant which successfully eliminated manganese from the water and resolved the community’s long-standing brown water issue. Additional improvements at that time included the construction of a new water tank, the installation of three new generators, and the replacement of several miles of water main.
“The board is proud of how the plant has performed over the years,” added Torrey. “But as the infrastructure continues to age, it’s crucial that we plan for future capital investments. This tour served as a reminder of our shared commitment to ensuring safe, high-quality drinking water remains available for the community.”
When asked for his thoughts about the tour, SDWA Board Chairman Teddy Pouncey expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to see firsthand the needs of the system. “The transparency of ClearWater with our board is critical as we continue to plan for the future of our system. We are thankful for ClearWater’s expertise over the last 18 years.”
