CWS’s Inverness Wastewater Treatment Plant in Hoover, Alabama recently hosted students from the nearby Spain Park High School. On Thursday, the school’s AP Environmental Science students had the unique opportunity to tour the facility. Led by experts from ClearWater Solutions, the City of Hoover, and Goodwyn Mills Cawood, students took an in-depth look at each stage of the wastewater treatment process, from the initial headworks to disinfection and final discharge.
Throughout the visit, students engaged with plant personnel and asked insightful questions about various aspects of the treatment process, including biological treatment methods, operator responsibilities, and strategies for managing plant operations during severe weather events. The tour also sparked discussions about career opportunities in the environmental sciences field, with students exploring how advancements in technology are shaping the roles of engineers and plant operators.
“This tour was a great hands-on learning experience for the students”, said Mike McCary, CWS Project Manager in Hoover. “They were able to see real-world applications of the concepts they are studying in class and better understand the environmental science practices.”
